Lifetime Custom Painting masks and contains the whole room, scrapes the texture, skim-coats and sands the ceiling smooth, then primes and paints, so you get a clean, modern finish without dust taking over your home. Ceilings from before the mid-1980s are tested for asbestos first.

The questions popcorn ceiling removal clients ask first

Q01

How much does popcorn ceiling removal cost in San Diego?

Popcorn ceiling removal in San Diego runs $1 to $3 per square foot, so a typical room lands between $350 and $900 and a whole home between $1,500 and $4,000. Your price depends on ceiling height, how thick the texture is, and whether the ceiling needs repair after scraping. Asbestos testing on older texture is quoted separately.

  • Single room: $350 to $900
  • Whole home: $1,500 to $4,000
  • Height and repair work affect the rate
Q02

Is popcorn ceiling removal messy?

It can be, which is exactly why we contain it. We mask floors and walls with plastic, control the dust, and clean thoroughly, so the mess stays in the room and off your furniture and floors. Most homeowners are surprised how clean the process is when it's handled by professionals instead of scraped dry by hand.

Q03

Could my popcorn ceiling contain asbestos?

Ceilings installed before the mid-1980s can contain asbestos, so we recommend testing before any work begins. If asbestos is present, it must be abated by a licensed specialist before we remove and refinish. We never scrape suspect material dry, and we'll walk you through the safe path.

Everyone on the team was professional, prompt and responsive. Luis explained the entire process and Mel's follow-through was exceptional. They delivered on the look and feel we wanted, and we would recommend their service to anyone who owns well constructed cabinets but wants to give them a refreshing new life. The original dark cabinets showed all the fingerprints, grease and dust, but the new white finish has stronger enamel protection and is much easier to clean and maintain. And it was way more cost effective than a complete remodel, we are very happy with the results!

I called Lifetime Painting (referred by One Day Door and Closets) and met with Luis within a few days I was happy and excepted their bid. Gabriel and Carlos were wonderful to work with. They were professional, friendly and prompt everyday. I had my popcorn ceiling remove, textured and painted. I could not ask for a better job. They also painted a large living room, hallway and all my doors. Gabriel was very thorough and went above and beyond to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. Albert replaced all my door handles for me and I appreciated Pablo came to finish all the final little touch ups. I am very happy with their work and would highly recommend them. I hope to use them again.

We are so happy with the work Lifetime Custom Painting did on our home! They painted our interior and part of the exterior, installed new baseboards, replaced the upstairs flooring, installed new vanities/toilets and completely redid our banister. Everything turned out beautiful and the attention to detail was excellent. Pablo, the project manager, was especially great to work with — professional, responsive, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Popcorn Ceiling Removal questions, answered

Straight answers about popcorn ceiling removal in San Diego, from a team that's painted local homes since 2007.

Do I need to move out during the work?

No. We work room by room with full containment, so you can stay in your home. We seal off the work area and keep the rest of the house clean and usable throughout the project.

Will the ceiling be ready to paint after scraping?

Yes. Scraping alone leaves an uneven surface, so we skim-coat and sand the ceiling smooth, then prime and paint. You end up with a finished, modern ceiling, not just a stripped one.

Can you match the rest of my ceilings?

Yes. We can leave the ceiling perfectly smooth or apply a light knockdown or orange-peel texture to match adjoining rooms, then paint everything for a seamless look.
